Dr. Chaoran Huang

is a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate at the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering, The University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney). He specialises in data mining and deep learning, providing the mining sector with advanced tools for geomechanics and operational decision-making, working with A/Prof. Chengguo Zhang and Prof. Ismet Canbulat.

Dr. Huang collaborates extensively on industry-led initiatives, where his recent work includes the predictive analysis of coal roof cavities for ACARP, Digital Ground Control Planning with Anglo American, and haulage emission monitoring for Conveyor Manufacturers Australia (CMA).

He completed his PhD at UNSW Computer Science and Engineering, focusing on deep learning-based recommender systems, where he later gained research project experience with the US Office of Naval Research under the supervision of Prof. Lina Yao. He continues to work with her and the D² group.
